- Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Linguistics
The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Linguistic offers students the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge, understanding and practice of communication processes in today’s modern business environment. The faculty teaches high-level practical language skills enabling accurate transmission of information within the increasingly global connections of Cambodia’s economy, government and society in English, Mandarin or Japanese. Thus, the faculty consists of three departments: the Department of English, the Department of Chinese and the Department of Japanese.
In order to assist students in enhancing their own career prospects, the faculty addresses practical issues such as preparing curriculum vitae, planning postgraduate study and effectively interviewing for a job. In conjunction with this, students are taught methods of enhancing their academic performance in areas such as note-taking in lectures and seminars, exam preparation and performance and referencing and citation. In addition to improving academic performance, these skills are useful career tools for graduates.
The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Linguistics also teaches business English and modern communication skills. This includes instruction on public speaking, presentations, and accessing current English-language medium locally and globally via the internet, television and print. It is also within similar contexts that the faculty offers these same courses in Mandarin and Japanese.
A Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree majoring in Languages, Business English and Communication Skills or English Literature in Contemporary Society, opens up many career opportunities in government, the mass media, NGOs and UN agencies, which require specific knowledge, expertise and skill in such areas as interpersonal relations, research, cross-cultural awareness, report-writing, and delegating authority. All are emerging skill-requirements for an increasingly professional workforce in Cambodia.
Finally, the faculty runs non-degree training for those seeking to enhance competitiveness in achieving success in IELTS/TOEFL results and scholarship application for study abroad.
All degree and non-degree programs in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Linguistics utilize language laboratory facilities, CD and computer-assisted packages and individual instruction by fully-qualified staff and native speakers. There is concentration on student-centered practice and articulation.
